Quinny (we think she’s about six years old) and her kitten Harley came into our care at the end of August 2021 after a member of the public observed that Harley was in danger of being run over while he was playing in the middle of a country road near Grimsargh. We managed to trap them both with not too much difficulty, Quinny was extremely nervous, but little Harley was a lot more chilled.

As is our usual practice we had Quinny tested for FIV/Felv prior to being vaccinated, sadly Quinny tested positive for FIV(Feline Immunodeficiency Virus), this is a complicated condition that can be passed to other cats by biting and possibly by grooming. It was thought that in all probability young Harley would have contracted the condition from his mum, however the blood test to determine this is only reliable on felines of at least six months old. Consequently we waited till Harley was seven months & then had him tested, to our surprise and relief he was negative and has since found a loving home.

Quinny is still quite nervous (although less so at feeding time), but her condition means that she has to be an indoor cat either on her own or with other FIV cats, FIV cats cannot mix with regular cats for fear of spreading the condition. Hopefully there is someone out there who is prepared to give her a loving home. If any complications arise due to her condition in the future then LCR will cover any associated veterinary costs.

If you would like to offer a home to Quinny (or any of our cats) and live local to Preston, Lancashire away from any busy roads please give us a call on 01772 750263 and make an appointment to view. We expect a minimum donation of £50 for our adult cats and a commitment to provide a litter tray (or trays) and keep them in at night.

We will always consider homing cats to busy traffic areas if it’s agreed to keep them as indoor cats.
