November 2011 Newsletter
We have homed several adult cats but have six kittens from the summer who are now young adults and getting bigger every day. It is such a shame to see them growing up in the cattery instead of in a home of their own. They are lovely cats with such personalities but no one is ringing to come and look for a new pet, possibly due to the recession.
CATS HOMED
Muddles, a black female cat was returned to us after homing her as a kitten due to her owners relocating due to work. Poor Muddles kept being overlooked but was finally chosen to go and live in Leyland to keep a gentleman company.
Wembley and Sprocket, two of Fraggle’s kittens were chosen to go and live with a family who had sadly lost their much loved cat after many years. They got her from me too many years ago to think about. The two girls have been renamed Lotus and Lola and have settled into family life really well.
Tinkerbelle, one of four kittens from a landfill site near Chorley now has a wonderful new home in Penwortham. Tinkerbelle, was the most nervous of the four kittens and managed to bite both Dawn and Jenny, not badly, when they were trying to make friends and also to catch her to put her back in her pen. She is a very pretty grey cat and also very intelligent, you can see her thinking things through, like how to avoid being caught and put back in the pen.
Tinkerbelle loves her new feline brother and is slowly coming round with her new owners although it will be a slow process but also very rewarding when all the hard work pays off.
Luigi and Guiseppe, went to a new home together in New Longtonwith Rachel who I met through work. They have settled in really well and are the most affectionate kittens we have had for some time. I really miss my cuddles with them.
Gwen, has found a lovely home in Dolphinholme with Arran and her family where she is delighted with all the space she now has.
Thanks to everyone who helped with her vet fees which were considerable, it really made a difference. Many thanks to Arran who came to the SRPCC Cat Show and helped raise money by offering face painting to the visitors and fellow stall holders.
CATS NEEDING HOMES
Bridget, is a small tortoiseshell cat around six months old, who came to us from Leyland Police, She was painfully thin with major hair loss over most of her body. Bridget has put weight on and turned into a very pretty tortie, we have had her spayed and despite pulling her stitches out and needing to be stapled back together she is recoveringwell. Bridget is a very friendly cat who loves her food and is ready for a home of her own.
Bingo, is a very affectionate black and white cat who loves to jump on your back while you are either sweeping up or bending down changing litter trays. This always reduces Jenny to fits of laughter until she finds herself the object of his affections. He needs a semi-outdoor home as he will not use a litter tray other than to urinate in. I have tried lots of different trays and litter but nothing seems to work. Then while I was on holiday, Chris from Home Comfort Pets tried a litter tray with just newspaper on the bottom. This seems to be working 90% of the time, he just has the odd “accident” now but I would prefer not to try to home him in a home environment just in case!
We also are looking for outdoor homes for some of our cats, Thompson, who is very shy and would take some time to settle in a home. He was an outdoor cat when he was brought to us when his owners moved into sheltered accomodation and he could not go with them.
We also have six kittens that are now coming up to six months old, mostly tabby and white with one white and ginger and one white and black. They are desperate for homes of their own and have kept us entertained all summer with their playful antics.
CATS HELPED
Thanks to their microchips we have been able to reunite 2 lost cats with their owners. Tinkerbelle wandered across the road from where she lives and made friends with the neighbours who did not know she lived locally and she was brought to us one teatime. One phone call later and mum was on her way to collect her.
The second cat came to us after the funniest message ever was left on my answering machine. It was from the manager of a supermarket in Leyland who said she had a cat in store that was refusing to leave. The vision this conjured up was marvellous, as I was at work Brianwent to collect the cat who turned out to be called Cookie and was a young ginger male. We contacted identichip and a very relieved owner turned up to collect her cat. It turned out that her neighbours had moved a couple of weeks earlier and Cookie had gone missing at the same time. Amazingly, the neighbours own young ginger cat was left behind and we think they had taken Cookie by mistake. Cookie’s owner tried to find out where they had moved to without success as well as looking after the cat left behind. Luckily Cookie decided to go shopping and although the manager kept carrying him out of the store he found out that the doors opened automatically and just walked back in. Cookie is now back home and sharing it with the other ginger cat.
FUNDS RAISED
The stall at the Open Day at Oakhill Vets in Kirkham raised £20.00 and we took along several kittens and there was a lot of interest in the work that we do. We were made very welcome and had a thoroughly enjoyable day. While we were setting up a large dog was rushed in that had collapsed in the heat, it was a very warm day. The staff immediately set about getting his temperature down, he was in a bad way. At the end of the day after treatment it was lovely to see him trotting out of the vets fully recovered.
Thanks to Jenny and Dawn who came to help and for their company.
The stall at South Ribble Pet Cat Show raised £80.00 and although Sophie and Toffee did not win first prize both of them won the title of Ribble Grand Master Cat and each of them have a certificate to prove it. The rosettes at the show are well worth winning, they are very pretty!! The show was a success for South Ribble Pet Cat Club although they could have done with more visitors. We tried to get something in the Lancashire Evening Post but were unsuccessful. Luckily they managed to make a small profit for the welfare part of the club, very lucky for a very shy stray cat called Audley who was hit by a car and taken to the vets in Bamber Bridge. Carol of SRPCC agreed to pay his vet bills which has used all the profit from the show. Audley, made a full recovery and has now gone to his new home, to read Audley’s story visit the Withy Grove Vets Facebook page.
The Flea Market in October raised £838.50, many thanks to everyone who came to help and to those of you who donated items for our stall and the tombola.
