March 2011 Newsletter

After a slow start to the year homing has picked up and we have homed several of our cats and also the kittens we took in over the New Year.

CATS HOMED

Misty, our very lively grey cat now has a home with one of our members in
Fulwood.

Alfie & Zeta, who we were beginning to think would be with us for ever
finally found the home I knew was out there for them. A lovely couple from
Penwortham came to look at them and decided to offer them a home despite
having to get on their knees and peer under the furniture at them. They had
decided to hide as they were a little nervous but they have settled really well
into their new home.

Susie, is a sweet little Persian cat offered a home by a couple who have
rescued animals all their lives and she could not have a better home! She has
such a gentle nature and when Brian and I took her to meet her new owners she made herself at home and has quickly become part of the family.

Teddy & Lily, two of Buttercups kittens went to live with Lynda and her
family in Fulwood. Lynda is one of our members and supports our Flea
Markets so we get to know how they are doing. They have settled well and are growing fast, Teddy was so poorly before Christmas, it is wonderful to hear how well he is doing.

Lester, an all ginger kitten again from Buttercup’s litter now lives in Ashton
and Leo, his black and white brother now lives with Gemma in Carnforth. We
have seen photo’s of Leo sharing a bed with his large canine companion a
black Labrador and he is clearly ruling the roost.

Lucy, our black and white female now has a home with a family in Ribbleton.

Mia & Olivia, now live with two of our members in Fulwood. This couple
have supported LCR for many years now and it was a pleasure to finally meet
them in person. Thanks also to Brian and Sylvia who arranged to deliver the
two girls to their new home.

Bubbles and Fizz, two of Sparkles kittens now live in Ashton while
Champers, has a new home in Penwortham.

Ben, one of Staceys kittens from last year went on a weekend break to Bamber Bridge but was sadly returned to us as the resident cat absolutely hated him and would have hurt him if he had stayed. Luckily a few days later his luck changed and he went to a new home in Lostock Hall.

Mitchell, his brother now has a new family home in Fulwood with lots of
knees to sit on. He is like his brother very friendly and loves lots of cuddles.

CATS NEEDING HOMES

Buttercup, is a very friendly tortie and white cat who came to us with her
kittens who have now all been homed. She does not seem keen on children but likes to play with my hair when I am bending down cleaning her pen.

Sparkle, is a beautiful tabby and white female again she came in with kittens
who have been homed and has now been spayed and she would like a home of her own. Sparkle is very active and playful and would make a lovely pet for someone.

Freckle, is one of the kittens we did not manage to home last year, he is a
lovely white and ginger tom, he has been neutered and would make the most
fabulous companion for someone but he has been passed over several times.
He is desperate for a caring home of his own and I so want to find one for him.

Tiptoes, is a black and white female cat who came to us with her four kittens after a phone call from a lady in Accrington. Tiptoes has been spayed and is ready for a new home.

CATS HELPED

We have lent the trap out twice to help catch cats in need of veterinary care .
We have also helped neuter two cats, kittens rescued from a garage last year
and taken home by one of the drivers.

Pickle, is a very timid tortoiseshell and white cat taken to Abbey Vets after
being hit by a car. She has had to have her jaw wired and needs to stay with us for a few weeks until it is time to have it removed. Pickle will then be ready for a new home.

FUNDS RAISED

The Flea Market at Barton in February raised £1,073. The Flea Market in
March raised £1,110. Many thanks to everyone who came to help, we have
a really good team both in the kitchen, on the stalls and on the door taking the admission money. We could always use an extra pair of hands so if you would like to come along and help please give Christine a ring on Preston 750263 or Sylvia on Preston 716837.

The stall at Preston and Blackpool Cat Show was a disappointment, we only
made £46.00 as opposed to £147.50 last year. There was not the normal
friendly atmosphere and we did not have an enjoyable day, to top it off the hall was very cold and we could not wait to get home. Thanks to Jenny for her company and help on the stall and to Sylvia who looked after the stall while we both went for lunch.

A stall on Preston car boot last Saturday raised £110.00. We had an enjoyable day and came home with empty boxes!! We will be doing another one in May, many thanks to Jenny who agreed to get up at an ungodly hour and come along to help.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS

Sunday 15th May, Flea Market at Barton Village Hall, 9am until 3pm
Helpers needed as always. We are also asking if there is anyone who could
bake some cakes for us or donate some ingredients towards the lovely cakes
that Dawn makes each time. These cakes are very popular but Dawn spends
most of the previous Saturday in the kitchen baking. If anyone out there is
willing to contribute to the ingredients she needs each time, flour, sugar, cocoa powder, pecans then please give Christine a ring on Preston 750263.

If you could bake some cakes for us please get in touch.

This is our last Flea Market before the summer and although we will be having a stall at car boots over the next few weeks this is our last chance to raise enough money to see us through the summer and the kitten season. We need some good quality bric a brac to sell and some items for the Tombola. Jigsaws sell out at the Flea Markets and we can never have enough. Jewellery we now display on a small table which Brian has adapted to show off our necklaces to best effect so we are always grateful for any jewellery you can donate. We have a separate book stall which Carol is in charge of and I am grateful she stores the books for us, we always need good quality books.
We also sell DVD’s and CD’s which are always popular and we collect gift
sets throughout the year to put on our stall at Christmas.

If you have any items to donate then please ring Christine on Preston 750263
or Sylvia on Preston 716837.

THANK YOU

A big Thank You to everyone at Jeatons for the cat food generously donated, many thanks to everyone for their continued support.

Lots of you donate cat food from the lady who drops of cat food for us at the
vets in Fulwood to Frank and Joyce who collect all the beef flavoured Felix
sachets that their two cats Felix & TigerLily refuse to eat.

Someone regularly leaves sachets of food in carrier bags at the door. Bunty donates cat food as well as collecting items for us to sell and I know lots of our members drop cat food off at Sylvia’s for us. To all of you who donate cat food thank you it is a big help when we have so many mouths to feed.

A belated Thank You to Ian from Abbey Veterinary Surgery who took part in the Great North Half Marathon Run last year and raised the fantastic sum of £600.00!! Many thanks to all the staff and clients who sponsored Ian and
helped raise this large sum of money which was put to very good use.

Best Wishes from Christine
